Pond's Fresh Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin E & B3 review

Costco's bulk deal

I’ve seen Pond’s products everywhere for as long as I can remember. I still have this vivid memory of being seven years old at Honest Ed’s in Toronto, pointing at a jar of Pond’s Cold Cream and asking my mom what it was. But despite seeing the brand all around me — on shelves, in ads, in random stores — I’ve never actually used any Pond’s products in my life. No one in my family or friend circles uses them either, so it’s always been one of those brands I recognize… but have zero personal experience with.

packaging

That changed when I spotted the Pond’s Fresh Hydration Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin E & B3 gel moisturizer at Costco. On Amazon, one 3.4 oz (96.4 g) jar costs $19.25 — but Costco had three jars for $17.99. A deal like that? I couldn’t resist. 😅

After doing some quick Googling, I discovered people calling it a “dupe” for Clinique’s Moisture Surge Gel — which is about four times the price. If you’ve been here long enough, you already know how I feel about dupes… so yes, I was skeptical.

You can see the big hollow hole before I even opened the product

🧴 First Impressions

  • flimsy plastic container

  • strong scent (reminds me of hair conditioner)

  • skin absorbed it immediately

  • moisturizes, but causes random bumps

  • The jar wasn’t filled completely (and the plastic bends easily)

There's not a lot of product in the jar

When I opened the jar, the product looked a bit… sad. Not fully filled, and the cheap, bendable plastic didn’t add confidence. The gel itself was firm, almost “bouncy,” which made the hollow indent inside even more noticeable.

The scent is very strong — not bad, but definitely bold. To me, it had a base note that reminded me slightly of sunscreen mixed with shampoo or hair conditioner. Some people might enjoy it, but for me, it felt overwhelming.

Texture-wise, it reminded me of Neutrogena Hydro Boost, but firmer and with a more silicone-like slip. The intensity of the scent is on par with Hydro Boost as well — not the same smell, but equally pungent.

Pond's Fresh Hydration

💧 Hydration Performance

It does moisturize — but only on already healthy skin. On dry, dehydrated, or slightly irritated skin, it didn’t do very much. It claims 24-hour hydration, but realistically… I had to reapply every 5–6 hours.

The Science behind hydration

⚠️ The Dealbreaker: Random Bumps

This is where things went downhill.

After a few uses, I started noticing random bumps on my nose and forehead — areas where I never get bumps. The more consistently I used it, the more bumps appeared. I’m not sure if I’m reacting to an ingredient or the formula as a whole, but my skin definitely did not like something in here.

I really wanted to love this — it looked promising, affordable, and had great ingredients on paper — but unfortunately, it didn’t work out for me at all.

product and packaging

⭐ Final Thoughts + Score

Pond’s Fresh Hydration has a nice texture and provides light moisture, but the strong scent, flimsy packaging, and unexpected breakouts make it a no for me. If your skin is extremely tolerant and you want something inexpensive, it might work… but I personally won’t be repurchasing.

Score: 3/10 (Moisturizes, but gave me random bumps 👎🏻)

HiSmile Grape Bubble Gum short review

I wanted to see what all the hype around HiSmile was about, so I picked up a tube to try for myself. I opted for the Grape Bubble Gum flavour—and I'm so glad I did!

Pros:

  • sweet (I'm glad they stated it was sugar-free)
  • lovely muscat grape taste (not the other gross artificial grape taste!)
  • gentle on teeth
  • slight mintiness
  • fun to brush teeth with
  • I noticed a little brightening (... but I'm not sure whether it is a placebo)

Cons:

  • too gentle, can't clean teeth or mouth properly
  • still feel plaque and particles between my teeth after brushing
  • expensive (for toothpaste)

Here are a few thoughts after using it:

First off, the gel formula is extremely gentle, which sounds nice in theory, but it doesn’t quite deliver on the cleaning front. Compared to more traditional brands like Colgate or Crest, HiSmile doesn’t leave my mouth feeling as fresh or thoroughly cleaned. I could still feel plaque and other particles between my teeth after brushing, which was a bit disappointing.

That said, the flavour is delicious. Honestly, it almost felt like I was doing something wrong because I enjoyed it so much! While the label says "grape," the taste leaned more toward a muscat grape—reminiscent of those Japanese muscat bubble gums I used to have as a kid. There's a hint of mint, but it's extremely subtle. The overall experience felt more like chewing sweet bubble gum than brushing your teeth.

Now, let’s talk price. While your typical Colgate toothpaste costs just a few dollars, this HiSmile tube rang up at $14—definitely a premium for something that's more novelty than necessity.

HiSmile toothepaste

Verdict:
HiSmile is a fun, aesthetic toothpaste, especially if you're curious about unique flavours or want a bit of novelty in your routine. But in terms of functionality, it's not worth the high price tag. It doesn’t provide the deep clean most people expect from a toothpaste. I’d recommend using it for a quick midday refresh, like after lunch, but not for serious cleaning, especially before bedtime.

Hemeiel Light-water Oxygen Bubble Mask review

I've been seeing these oxygen masks all over social media and was fascinated by how many bubbles they produced. I decided to get some and see for myself.

I found this on Shein and decided to test it out. This mask is a bit pricier than other masks, it was $9.00 CAD for 5 masks.

This is a light-water oxygen bubble mask with exfoliating effects.

This mask does not contain any alcohol properties.

What this product does:
Oil Control, Blackhead Remover, Acne Treatment, Hydrating, Nourishing, Clearing, Brightening, Whitening, and Anti-Aging

It is ideal for those who have dry, normal, combination, and oily skin.

I want to add that if you have super sensitive skin, be aware that it might be a bit irritating for you. (FYI: I have sensitive skin and it causes slight irritation to my skin)

Ingredients:
WATER,BUTYLENE GLYCOL,DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL,GLYCERIN,GLYCOSYL TREHALOSE,HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE,HINOKITIOL,XANTHAN GUM,DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZINATE,SODIUM HYALURONATE,PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL,CERAMIDE 3,BAMBOO CHARCOAL,HYDROLYZED SODIUM HYALURONATE,DIGLYCEROL,GLUCURONIDE,PHENOXYETHANOL,METHYL PARABEN

how it fits on my face 👍

impressions:
  • tingly sensation
  • no scent/aroma
  • SO MUCH/MANY FOAM/BUBBLES (see pictures)
  • good fit for the face but due to the foam/bubble production, it is better to lie down
  • causes a slight but noticeable skin irritation after using (but doesn't linger or cause rashes)
  • skin feels SOooOOOOooo smooth! 👍
  • huge improvements to my skin (moisturizing, smoother texture, healthier... etc)

foam starting to form

I was quite skeptical when I bought this and thought it was only a gimmick, but I was extremely surprised as to how it made my skin feel after the first use.

I was using my hands to remove the foam from my face and when I washed my hands throughout the day, I couldn't help but notice just how much softer and smoother they felt, too!

I didn't enjoy the foaminess on my face, it kept producing more foam even after the 15-20 minutes and continued to produce foam, 30 minutes after I removed the mask.

overwhelmed and amazed at how many bubbles there are

HOWEVER, despite the foaming and bubbles... I actually *surprise surprise* like this mask! It improved my skin's condition after first use. My skin hasn't felt this clean and moisturized in a very long time! I have noticed that there is a weird "rubbery" after texture (both on my face and hands) but it felt like an improvement more than a weird side effect.

AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream Some by Mi review

I have been eyeing this cream for some time... it has AHA, BHA and PHA.

AHA which stands for alpha hydroxy acid focuses on removing layers of dead skin cells on the surface level and stimulates collagen and humectant properties

BHA stands for beta hydroxy acid penetrates deeper under the surface of the skin to degunk debris from the pores. It is good for acne-prone skin, anti-inflammatory, and also stimulates collagen production.

PHA stands for Poly hydroxy Acid removes layers of dead skin cells on the surface and helps the skin absorb products better.

This cream claims to smoothly exfoliate and strengthen your skin barrier with tea tree leaf water, Centella Asiatica. It also has Madecassoside to protect sensitive skin and helps it stay healthy.

This cream contains Centella 700,000ppm

Instructions:

Take an appropriate amount and spread evenly onto the skin.

Since there is a serum version, I assume this cream acts as a moisturizer.

 impressions:

  • woody minty smell
  • soothing for skin
  • very lightweight
  • effects are not long-lasting
  • only provides a temporary relief
  • you need a liberal amount (for 30 days, this is a lot of product!)

I was very excited when I first saw this cream however, after using it for 30 days, I didn't see any significant changes to my skin, it is good as a temporary relief from dryness but it didn't provide life-changing or amazing results.  It is a lightweight product and doesn't provide any protective barrier (like most moisturizers do).

I liked how the woody mintiness of the cream calmed my skin (when it felt irritated, dry, sensitive) but I didn't like how it just seemed to stop at that. I didn't feel any major changes or improvements to my skin.

While it doesn't irritate my skin at all (despite all of the exfoliants) it didn't do a good job helping my skin improve.

unfortunately, this is not as good as most have said it is.

O'Keeffe's Working Hands Hand Cream review

O'Keeffe's Working Hands Hand Cream review

These were the two years where I willingly washed my hands constantly. It caused my eczema to come back, thankfully I had Crabtree and Evelyn's hand creams, they saved me. I didn't want to only have one type of product ready and wanted to try different hand creams. A few months ago, while bingeing on Youtube videos, I noticed that a lot of Youtubers were recommending this product. A lot of the videos claimed that this hand cream helped them so I decided to give it a try.

details of product

This hand cream is cheaper compared to Crabtree and Evelyn's but more expensive compared to most drug store hand creams. They claim that it is unscented, non-greasy, and hypoallergenic.

The selling point is it is great for extremely dry cracked hands and all you need is a pea-size amount.

There isn't a lot of ingredients.

It is also clinically proven to
  • instantly boost moisture levels
  • create a protective layer on the skin's surface
  • help prevent further moisture loss

consistency of product

These are my impressions (after using it for 2 months):

  • it lives up to its unscented, non-greasy, and hypoallergenic claims
  • all you need is a pea-size (it is way more than enough)
  • the texture is very firm, like a hard type of cream (think silicone type)
  • it did not boost the moisture levels of my skin, if anything, it made it worse
  • it made the tips of my fingers cracked (one fingertip, bled)
  • it created a protective layer to prevent moisture from entering and leaving my skin

I find it ironic how this cream which was supposed to prevent my hands from dryness and cracking, ended up making my hands crack... imagine the horror when I saw my skin getting dryer with each use. I haven't had any skin cracks on my hands for over 20 years and they came back! The skin on my pointer finger (on my left hand) got so bad that it started bleeding! Thankfully I had Crabtree and Evelyn's hand cream to relieve it and fix the problem!

While this product does not cause my hands to sweat (I have extremely sensitive skin and when I use products that contain certain harmful ingredients, they sweat) but it caused my hands to crack!

I asked my mom to use this with me and while her hands are less sensitive than mine's, she said that there was nothing special about this hand cream.

I am extremely disappointed! I wasn’t even able to use touch id for weeks :(

e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask review

I found this on iHerb and I was very fortunate to get a hold of it before it discontinued... O.o

My iHerb referral code is: https://www.iherb.com/?rcode=CVX9348 you can use it (and we both get 5% off our purchases :D... it works with both new and existing customers)

This is a no parabens, no sulphates and no phthalates product.

According to the packaging, this is a hydrating and nourishing gel that transforms into a bubble mask once applied to the skin. It removes excess dirt and cleanses pores and helps the skin become healthy and glowing.

Directions:

push down on the sides of the top to dispense the product (this just means it has a top big pump type of dispenser) Apple a thin layer all over slightly damp skin and bubbles will form. When the bubbles begin to dissipate (in 5-10 minutes time) massage with fingertips and wash with warm water to remove. Pat dry and follow with a moisturizer.

Impressions:

  • the pump is not easy to use
  • you need 2-3 pumps to cover your entire face
  • it dries your skin making it feel very tight and uncomfortable
  • my skin felt very dry after using it (not moisturizing)
  • do not rub the product into face and do not go over the same place again

so... I ran into a few problems...

first, you need to push down the pump using both hands, any imbalance and the dispenser will not dispense out any product

second, make sure to only put the product on your face without rubbing it in or going back for a second time or the product will not bubble.

third, this product stings eyes so make sure you don't get any of the product near your eyes (especially when you are washing your face)

forth, since it is drying... make sure you apply a moisturizer right after you wash your face

It was an experience using this product. It seems promising but unfortunately, it wasn't for me.

Compact Perfume Vial review

from a company's instagram story

I bought one of these perfume vials 5 years ago. I was very excited, but I don't have it anymore... and you will see why after this review

pros:

  • handy
  • easy to bring your favourite perfume with you
  • easy to use
  • only suitable for pump types of perfume

cons:

  • perfume reside stays
  • cannot clean
  • leaks
  • does not keep perfume fresh
  • does not keep perfume scent in the bottle
  • cannot "open" vial
In a nutshell, it does what it says but there are a lot of problems that follow. I found it frustrating how the perfume was always leaking (the leak wasn't obvious at first, but then you start noticing your perfume everywhere especially in your bag and you will notice how you are only left with half a vial left overnight).

花王SOFINA iP 土台美容液 review

I stumbled on a really cool product a few weeks ago at my local drug store. At first I thought it was some facial washing foam, however, after reading what it is, I discovered it was actually a foam serum!... Now, THAT is something I have never seen nor heard of.

I instantly became intrigued and despite its hefty ¥3000 price tag, I had to get it both to quench my curiosity and for you, my blog.

a quick scan of the instructions and info pamphlet told me that this is a carbon serum (which explains the foam).

The carbon bubbles are used to create better blood circulation helping your skin glow.

They say it is suitable for dry skin and it is one of their highest density products. The product is supposed to help moisturize, create elasticity and give your skin a creamy smooth finish.

impressions:

  • foam for your face
  • soda for your face
  • love the subtle floral smell
  • foam disappears quickly
  • sensitive skin needs time adjusting to product
  • made skin feel soft but very dry

the foam turned flat before I could snap a picture

My skin would break out in one area each time I used this for the first three weeks I used this product, they were extremely painful and I was well aware it was this serum causing the problem. Once you get past this stage, your skin will be more accepting of it.

While it did make my skin very smooth, my skin was very dry and vulnerable. I would always immediately put some moisturizer and other products so my skin doesn't dehydrate.

I have mixed feelings over this product. I'm not sure whether I will purchase it again.

Annie's Way Mask Gallery Arbutin + Hyaluronic Acid Jelly Mask review

I have heard about this mask for ages and I finally have it in my hands! I know this isn't the newest product out there... but if it is good... it doesn't matter... right?

So for a quick background, this mask made its debut 4 years ago (2014) and every beauty guru was talking about this product. A lot of them claimed how this mask has changed their skin.

Fast forward to 2018, the product is almost nonexistent. Their website no longer works, and everyone has moved onto other products.

I wanted to try this product for a long time, but when I received this product (online shopping) I got busy and forgot about it until now.

ingredients
the instructions are very straightforward: after washing your face and applying moisturizing lotion (Asian kind) add a 0.5cm thickness to the skin. Wait 30 minutes and wipe it off. Put an extra thick layer to your nose. After you are done, wash with water and apply a serum or other masks to make this mask more effective.

pros

  • moisturizes skin

cons

  • need to use a lot of product each time
  • messy (you need to apply 0.5cm thickness of product)
  • uncomfortable, I couldn't wait to remove it

I can see how it quickly came and how it quickly went. While this mask does its job, I found it too much of a hassle to use. You MUST put a 0.5cm thickness of product or the product will dry on your face and reverse suck out the moisture from your skin. It was hard to slab on THAT much product without making a mess. It also felt incredibly uncomfortable on my skin. The thickness of the product caused it to stick to my eyelashes and while it did not have a droopy feeling, my skin did not like the texture after 10 minutes.

There are way better products out on the market which can do what this mask does without the mess and hassle.

Clear Coca Cola Coke review

 Coca-cola Clear!

Hey, my lovely balls of sunshine!

I want to say "hi" to the sudden massive Brazilian audience who just visited me over the weekend! (That was A LOT OF VIEWS!!)

Japan has been trending over and obsessed with creating clear drinks, things from clear milk tea to clear tea. And they finally did it, they made a clear coca cola!! (FYI, they call it コカ・コーラ クリア which translates to Coca-Cola Clear)

it is strange... seriously, it just feels clean and on those days you are wearing white shirts or bottoms, it will be a relief knowing you have a water looking drink that is not prepared to stain your clothes.

Nutrition:

back to the drink, I checked its nutrition, just like their drink seems very clean... no calories, no sugar and no sodium. A bit of research told me that it is supposed to be Japan's Clear Coke Zero.

it is strange and scary at the same time.

impressions:

  • super fizzy!!
  • weird aftertaste
  • doesn't exactly taste like coca cola's coke
After taking the first few sips, my taste buds were confused. In the end, I had to take another few sips with a blindfold so my judgement will be less biased.

I appreciated how frizzy it was... but the taste was totally off. It has a strange undertaste to it as if the drink was mixed with some artificial sugar (much worse than the original Diet and Zero).

I also noticed that the frizziness is a bit different from the regular coca cola frizzy, the bubbles here are smaller but more. it sometimes gets so frizzy to the point that it feels like a few seconds of creamy foam.

Unfortunately, the prominent signature taste of Coca-Cola coke was hardly there... it was covered by the strange artificial sugary taste. It was too sweet for my liking.

So... did I like it?

not really. One of the reasons I like Coca Cola's coke is their signature taste, without that rich taste, there is really no reason for us to drink this...

definitely an interesting gimmick product which I don't expect it to last...

素爪ケア(nail crack relieve) review

For all us nail polish fanatics out there, a chipped nail is devastating... it can ruin a perfect manicure. It is unfixable. To this, a certain Japanese company has a solution: cover it with a clear coat so it does not bother you. It is suppose to hide the crack as well.

素爪ケア product

Out of curiosity,  I decided to give this product a try. I didn't have an obvious chipped nail, the chip was not obvious on camera. The chipped nail caused a bit of my nail polish to fall out. This product cost ¥950... so it should have some credibility to work... right?

I tried to zoom in on the crack, but it just showed blurriness #fail

I applied a thin layer but nothing happened... then I tried to apply a thick layer.... I waited for it to dry... for it to harden so it can form a protective layer...

Nothing.... NOTHING! There were no changes. I didn't expect a change in appearance since it was a clear coat... but it didn't repair my nail, it didn't stop the crack from getting worse. It was just... the same... as if I applied a regular top coat... the crack area wasn't protected... I could still move it around... without any effort

Such a gimmick...

Forever 21's Detangler Brush review

Forever 21's Detangler

I don't know about you guys, but whenever my hair is wet, it somehow feels much more fragile. Due to the thinness of my hair strands whenever I try to comb my hair, I hear 'snaps" resulting from certain hair strands giving in to the knots and tangles and breaking my hair! It is tragical... for both my hair and me.

I have heard of Tangle Teezer for a long time... but it isn't easy to find the original one. It wasn't available in Toronto.

impressions:

  • gets rid of tangles
  • didn't rip my hair out
  • works and detangles my hair
  • brush bristles are a little too short

bristles

The other day, I was walking into Forever 21 and found this Tangle Teezer knockoff. It is called Forever 21's Detangler. It looks almost identical to the original, all the way to the shape. The only exception is that there is a handle for Forever 21's version.

I also found the original Tangle Teezer at Tokyu Hands... and I discovered that the bristles for the Tangle Tamer was much longer and stronger. There were also variations in sizes making it catch every piece of hair easier.

Price differences:

Forever 21's Detangler costs around $8.75 USD
Tangle Teezer costs around $12.95 USD

Verdict:

Back to Forever 21's Detangler, I am definitely impressed... this is definitely not a gimmick product. I managed to get rid of all my tangles and my hair didn't snap because it was very gentle. The only drawback is that the bristles are too short (this is where the original Tangle Teezer wins) so I tend to miss sections of hair because it cannot grab onto most pieces properly. There isn't a huge difference in prices, however, if you are a penny pincher, Forever 21's Detangler will do the trick (and it has a handle!), but if you are looking for a quality product, you should definitely buy the Tangle Teezer.

Daiso's Socks Glue review

Daiso's Socks Glue review
sock glue from Daiso

Sock Glue.. is it a gimmick or does it really work?

A few years ago (when I was still studying Japanese), my Sensei (or professor) told us about a product called Sock Glue, he explained that in Japan, female students are required to wear knee high socks as part of their uniform, but sometimes and very often... their socks will fall. In order to prevent this from happening, Japanese companies decided to create a product which will glue the socks on their legs so that their socks won't fall (cool product huh?).

Because of this information, I was fascinated about this product to this day. One day, while I was shopping at Daiso, ta-da, I found it! It was only ¥100 so I got it...

I decided to test it out...  I tried them for my knee high socks and some camisoles (I sometimes find them a bit too revealing). I was excited...

BUT... it didn't exactly work...

firstly, it felt like glue for paper... just as thin and just as watery...

secondly, you need a lot of it... you literally have to soak the fabric with it or else it wouldn't even stick... the fabric kept absorbing all the glue... so it was difficult to stick it on your skin.

thirdly, because your skin "moves", this causes the glue to loosen its grip and end up peeling off all together with your fabric (sock/camisole).

unfortunately this was a great idea... but it didn't work at all... absolutely disappointed...

score: 1/10... (I guess it is a good glue for paper...)

Slim Patch review
the slim patch

impressions:
  • easy to use
  • made me more hungry
  • no real changes in belly after using it for 3 times
  • strong medicated smell
  • no rashes
  • leaves skin with some leftover plastic

These are the claims:
Every night every day in the minus visible
The use of 3 day: defecation and increased frequency of defecation, and after each defecation, the toilet can see floating around on the thin layer of oil. This shows that in vivo intestinal oil has begun to break down and eliminate.
The use of 5 days: you will find one every day to reduce stomach, waist circumference is also smaller waist curves begin to be felt.
The use of 10 days: My goodness, I could not believe a whole lost 5 kg, waist circumference is also from the original 2-foot 4 to return to a one-foot 9, is even more amazing is, the skin becomes smooth and delicate resilient.
The use of 30 days: complete more than its own expectations, convex-convex completely gone, create a devil figure, a new different you.

Verdict:

So... after using it for 5 days, I didn't find any changes... so I stopped using them... I do not recommend this product, I think it is just a gimmick... I was thankful it did not create any weird rashes on my skin (that was one of my biggest concerns).
