Comparison: Difference Between Hong Kong and Canadian/American McDonald's Sausage McMuffin

豬柳蛋漢堡 Hong Kong McDonald' s Sausage McMuffin review
Hong Kong McDonald's Sausage McMuffin
Chinese name: 豬柳蛋漢堡

For those in North America, begin to envy us in Hong Kong! Did you know that McDonald's in Hong Kong serves their Sausage McMuffin as a regular menu item? This means we can order this anytime... not just around breakfast time! (*evil laughter)

In this review, I want to talk about the differences between the Sausage McMuffin you can order in Hong Kong vs the one in North America And... for those who haven't had a Sausage McMuffin ever (shock), I'll give a small review about it.

Initially, I was planning to write the review on the same post... but after realizing that there are more differences I decided to write a separate post.

豬柳蛋漢堡 Hong Kong McDonald' s Sausage McMuffin review
I halfed a Sausage McMuffin, see how the ingredients are nicely arranged?

Similarities:
  • tastes identical
  • similar ingredients (read more in the differences)
Differences:
  • patty tastes a bit different, there is a weird "tangy" taste in the HK version (and no, the meat didn't go bad... I experienced this in 3 mcDonald's at different times and they all tasted like that). I did find a way to get rid of the weird "tangy" taste, you just let the mcMuffin cool down
  • muffin, I prefer HK version bread more, because it doesn't have that weird sour taste to it, the muffin wasn't grilled in the HK version, possibly baked.
  • HK version's ingredients are properly placed (as shown in the image)
  • The cheese in the HK version wasn't fully melted
So which do you prefer?
I guess it all depends... to be honest, I don't have a huge prefererence over one or the other because they are really similar. I didn't enjoy the tangyness of the HK patty... but at the same time, I didn't like the tangyness that the muffin had in the American/Canadian version either. I liked how organized the ingredients were in the HK version but I also liked the melted cheese in the American/Canadian version. At the end of the day, I think both are good.

Let's start with the review first.

impressions:
  • nice ratio of ingredients
  • fresh
  • filling
  • sausage patty blends everything perfectly together
This is one of my favourite McD's items because it taste really good. I used to purposely wake up earlier (in America and Canada) just to be able to order this. I love the sausage patty (the patty is made from chopped breakfast sausages). I highly recommend this to anyone... really!

Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream @ Sweet House Cha Cha review

Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream @ Sweet House Cha Cha review 北海道牛奶雪糕
store front of Sweet House Cha Cha
how to find this place
Sweet House Cha Cha is located across from City Super at Harbour City, I am not sure whether other City Super's have this, but while I was at City Super at IFC, I couldn't find Sweet House Cha Cha... so to be safe, I'll say it is just available at Harbour City's City Super.

Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream @ Sweet House Cha Cha review 北海道牛奶雪糕
2 cones of Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream from Sweet House Cha Cha (menu item C1)
Price: $28 HKD per cone (approx. $3.60 USD)

Hokkaido milk is perhaps one of my favourite milks (is milks a word?) in the world... I hardly drink milk... I literally need cereal to lure me to finish my glass of milk... but when it comes to Hokkaido milk... I can finish a glass of milk without struggling.

I am always excited when I see Hokkaido milk products... and a few years ago, I found this place after grocery shopping at City Super... they have green tea ice cream as well... but I still prefer the Hokkaido one (the green tea flavour isn't bad... it tastes strongly of Matcha...).

You can choose between cup or cone (I only order cone)

impressions

  • very strong Hokkaido milk taste
  • creamy
  • no bloating feeling

If you had to ask me, I would say this is probably the best Hokkaido milk ice cream I have ever had. I have tried many... even some in Tokyo but I still like this one. Unlike most Hokkaido milk ice creams this one does not give you a bloated full feeling... I think the fat percentage is not as high as others.

I highly recommend you to try this if you ever visit Hong Kong :).

Dalloyau Easter Egg Collection EGG 'N THREE [review]

My cousin got me some Easter Eggs for Easter (sorry, I know that it took way too long to post these up).

This will be a quick short review and overview of each of the chocolate eggs.

The name is: EGG 'N THREE
Consists of: Milky, toasty, nutty chocolate

Dalloyau Patisserie Easter Egg [review]
bunny/rabbit design Caramel Chocolate
I found this chocolate to be slightly sweet and I didn't really like the "sticky" feeling it had.... I love the bunny though :)

Dalloyau Patisserie Easter Egg [review]
chicken design milk chocolate
this milk chocolate was coated in a shimmery gold dust powder layer making it look really nice... this was my favourite of all the three eggs.

Dalloyau Patisserie Easter Egg [review]
bow design white chocolate
I liked the design... (I am a huge fan of bows) the white chocolate was quite sweet.

(review of the bigger egg here!)

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review
Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread

Yes, you didn't read wrong... Crabtree and Evelyn the famous English hand cream maker has decided to make some good old traditional Scottish Shortbread! Actually, they have started making them for about a year ago, but I didn't get my hands on them till now (thanks Patty for buying me some 😍)

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review
close up of name

Crabtree and Evelyn has been known for quality so I had high hopes for these shortbreads.

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review
nutrition info

The ingredients seem quite safe... But there is slightly too much butter... and that is reflected on its nutrients.

The net weight is 290g and the nutrition is based on 100g... you can see how much energy, fat and sodium is contained in each cookie... er... shortbread.

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review
one piece of short bread

Impressions
Strong buttery taste
Fluffy
Very crumbly
Made my fingers extremely oily

Crabtree and Evelyn Shortbread review
look at the fluffiness!

I loved these... But please eat with caution, while these taste delicious, they certainly can be quite fattening... I hope they improve the recipe by making these less oily...

Rohto C3 Moist review

Rohto C3 Moist review
Rohto eye drops

So, it has been quite a while since I have sritten anything other than food.. So let me start off with an eye moist product that I have been using for about a month.

So... What is this?
These are "eye drops" for your contact lenses, they aren't technically directly for your eyes but your contact lenses.

Usually when you are working long hours or you have just worn your contact lenses for too long, they will start to dry, and suck up the remaining moisture in your eyes, thus, making your eyes dry. So in order to prevent that Rohto created contact lenses drops to moisten your contact lenses and once your contact lenses are fully moisten, they will moisten your eyes!

Where to buy this:
at Watson's and Mannings

Rohto C3 Moist review
back

Since this was transparent, it is quite tough to see the print in the picture. This is what it says:

Active Ingredients:
  • Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate:0.5%
  • Potassium Chloride 0.08%
  • Sodium Chloride 0.44%
  • Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose 0.4%
  • Glucose 0.096%

  • *Please read instructions before you use
  • *Prevent direct sunlight exposure, remember to keep cap on when storing, store in a cool place
  • Manufactured by Rohto- Mentholatum (Vietnam) Co. Ltd

Impressions:
  • A tiny stinging sensation
  • Needs 3-4 drops to work
  • does not have the "refreshing" effect it claims it has
  • Towards using half the amount of product, it gets difficult to squeeze the drops out

They claim you must discard the product after 30 days... To prevent possible eye infection due to bacteria/protein build up.

I am going to throw this out (see first picture) and there is still quite a lot of product remaining, and it is kind of a good thing... it is difficult to squeeze out the remaining drops.

McDonald' s Earl Grey Latte review

McDonald' s Earl Grey Latte review
large cup of Earl Grey Latte

Price: $32.50 HKD (approx. $4.25 USD)
McDonald's has been heavily advertising this Earl Grey Latte... so I decided to get this... because... as most of you know, I love drinking tea... and Earl Grey happens to be one of my favourite teas!

Impressions:
  • Heavily brewed
  • Slightly bitter taste
  • Lots of lemon/citrus flavoured jelly's at the bottom
I didn't really enjoy drinking this... unlike their other drinks, this tea latte did not quench my thirst... it was too thick and they had overbrewed it... giving it a terrible bitter and "coarse" taste.

Their lemon/citrus jelly was supposed to enhance the tea flavour (because for all you English folks out there... you will know that adding lemon to Earl Grey is a MUST)... but unfortunately, the jelly was too sweet... it did not enhance the taste at all... making it a terrible combination...

McDonald' s Pineapple Punch review

McDonald' s Pineapple Punch review
McDonald's Pineapple Punch

The pineapple craze has finally begun at McDonald's!! (I know... I think I'm spending WAY too much time here...)

McDonald' s Pineapple Punch review
how the drink looks like (notice the syrup and pineapple chunks on the bottom and the pineapple chunks on top)

price: $15.80 HKD (approx. $2.03 USD)

Impressions:
  • Italian soda
  • Lots of pineapple chunks
  • Very tasty
  • Quenches thirst
  • a little too sweet

This Pineapple Punch is quite tasty but I found it to be slightly sweet. From the amount of syrup at the bottom, I would say this is an Italian soda in disguise. Make sure you mix the drink well or you will end up with too much syrup/sweetness at the bottom.
